Custom Web Apps Advice

I would like help (suggestions, pointers to information, etc.) that would allow me to host applications not in the list of available applications or HTML/XML data files on my RN-102 (running ReadyNAS 6.2.2) that could be accessed via a web browser to devices on my LAN.

I have some PHP + MySql web applications running on a desktop with the LAMP suite that ideally I would like to move to the RN-102. But if that is not practical I would like to at least store some exported HTML files to the NAS and allow easy access (browser bookmark) to the data files. I normally shutdown that desktop - thus the apps are not available on the LAN - when not using that desktop. I could leave the desktop powered On like I do the NAS, but prefer not to.

I looked in the /apps directory on the NAS for the few applications I have installed and notice each installed app seems to have a root directory with some config files and a "web" directory where the app files are stored. Is there documentation / instructions pertaining to setting up subdirectories of the /apps directory? I read some old posts on the forum indicating there used to be an SDK, but believe that is not available for the newer ARM-based NAS products. How do those with the knowhow or tools translate (port) a web application to work on the NetgearNAS platform?

The apps I would like to host on the RN-102 are: videodb ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/videodb/ ) and SOS Web Pages ( http://www.soswebpages.com/ ); and maybe others. I understand performance might be an issue with the NAS, so one fall-back is to export database to HTML and simply serve those.

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

  • Thanks - I will look into that. I tried to register as a developer - in hopes to get information abd received an E-Mail reply that Netgear would provide login information - but got nothing since then. Maybe I don't need to register as a developer.
  • I read the document files (Readme & NasApplicationSpec) but am still somewhat confused. Is there another document, such as a step-by-step How-To hiding somewhere on the RedyNAS website? I want to get a couple of somewhat simple PHP & MySQL Apps to run on my RN102 (Armel).

In my opinion the existing docs assume too much knoweldge conerning the reader.
  • Such addons already exist

    There's no other doc :(
