Detected increasing reallocated sector count

Hi.

I have a ReadyNAS NVX.
I have 2x 1Tb disk in the NAS.

Im beginning to get these errors:

Detected increasing reallocated sector count[1854] on disk 2 [ST31000340NS, 9QJ3B5TH] 86 times in the past 30 days. This often indicates an impending failure. Please be prepared to replace this disk to maintain data redundancy.

Its seems to be only disk 2 that is reporting errors.

What are my options? Can I run some tool to correct these errors?

Best senario for me would ofcause to be able to keep all my data. If this impossible, im thinking of buying 2 new 2TB disk (ST2000DM001).

Can I mix 1TB and 2TB disk?

Best regards

That disk is failing and needs to be replaced urgently. Yes you can add 2TB disks. Choose disks from the compatibility list.
  • thanks for answering

So if I mix 1tb and 2tb disks, what type of raid should I choose?
  • Thanks mdgm

Last question. The disk (disk 2) that is currently reporting errors, can i format the disk and re-use it? Or is it end of life?

That count suggests the disk is about to die. So no attempting to re-use it would not be a good idea.

Don't re-use it. If the disk is still under warranty, you can get a recertified replacement from the manufacturer.

Both Seagate and Western Digital let you check warranty status from their web sites, and you can initiate the disk RMA from there as well.
