Disk Failed but not 'Degraded', just no volumes!
Woke up this morning to my RN102 clicking and whirring in an alarming fashion. Couldn't access the Admin page and wouldn't respond to the front-panel button to turn off, so had to pull the power (eek!).
Restarted it and found that Disk 2 was no longer available and was the cause of the noise, so removed it.
I expected it to continue to work in 'Degraded' mode, but instead it lost it's IP address and asked to go through the setup wizard, first warning that Disk 1 'had been used in another device'.
Shut the system down again and tried the old freezer trick on both drives, but Disk 2 is still dead.
I haven't setup a new volume as I'm very keen to recover the data from Disk 1. Any suggestions as to how I can do that?

Was the unit in XRAID mode and the drives as a redundant pair, or were the drives in some other configuration? Drive 2 is likely toast if it's making noise. But I suggest you test Drive 1 with vendor tools using a PC to see if it's still viable.

I appreciate the response Sandshark but I've solved the issue now.
As suspected, Disk 2 was toast. Couldn't access anything from Disk 1 using the ReadyNAS so created an Ubuntu VM and accessed it with MDADM.
Managed to recover about 90% of the content from it, so it's not a total disaster. It has also made me realise that although I treated the content of this NAS as 'expendable' (i.e. not backed up), it really isn't...so more backup devices needed!
