I've just received a Disk Test Failure email notice. Upon consulting the system volume log, I find this: sdd:

if still under warranty just get it replaced

There's nothing wrong with the WDC Reds, many users here (including me) have found them to be reliable.

Thanks for the clarification.
FWIW in my case at least, I've got the Pros in my sights for the extra RPMs. I know I don't necessarily need that for the RN, but I do for my production server. If I standardize between the server and the RN, I can keep a single cold spare on hand that'll work in either place.
FYI two out of three RN disk tests have failed on SMART. I've started an RMA on the drive.
