Duo v1 backup to remote site
Hi all,
Not very technical, so if anyone can help I'd really appreciate the answer in simple terms please :-)
Is it possible to get my ReadyNas Duo v1 to mirror itself to another ReadyNas Duo v2 at my parents house (over the internet)?
Thanks,
PR

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYes. Though whether it is practical depends on your internet speed. Do you know how fast your uplink is? Also, you won't have a secure (encrypted) backup connection, so it would be possible for someone to snoop your data.
If your goal is to back up your data, it would probably be easier to use a USB drive.
Otherwise, what you would do is
(a) get a dynamic DNS name for your router.
(b) forward a port in your router to your NAS (to allow your parent's duo to connect to yours).
(c) schedule an rsync backup job on your parent's duo which uses your v1 as the backup source (the dynamic DNS name
The fastest approach to this is to co-locate the Duo's initially, and do the backup locally using NFS. Then switch to rsync over the internet after the bulk of the data is copied.
