Email Not Working When Nas is on
Got a bit of a strange one for you.
Got a RN102 running 6.2.4
When ever the Nas drive is powered on I get error messages when using outlook only when trying to send emails.
When I switch off the nas and reboot the moden it takes a while but then starts to send emails again.
Just to add I have the same router and nas at home as well as work and both dont work when nas drives are powered on.
Any Idea's ?
Thanks
Craig

- NhellieVirtuosoDid you setup email alerts on the NAS? System > Settings > Alerts check the port numbers that you are using, you may have the same port numbers used for your outlook server and the NAS.
When did you start having the issue? Has it been working before? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYou are saying that the router doesn't work when the NAS is powered on? And this happens at home and at work? Is this the same NAS or two different models?
By "not work" do you mean you can't reach the internet from a PC? If so, can you reach local equipment (for instance the NAS and or printers)?
Does the problem disappear when you disconnect the ethernet cable of the RN102? (leaving it powered up). - dobbsyAspirantThanks for the reply's, Im waiting for until the office empty's this afternoon to start playing with it as it will just stop the emails from sending,.
Its seems as soon as the Nas is switched on, the emails from outlook aren't able to send,Like a port is being blocked, We still have internet etc but just can't send any emails.
We can still print and send and receive info to the network but just kills outlook its a real strange one.
Will try just disconnecting the Ethernet next, It takes about 30 mins for emails to send correctly after disconnecting the Nas - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThis is very odd.
- dobbsyAspirantYes real strange, had the Nas off for an hour and just being able to send emails, can make a video if you like
- StephenBGuru - Experienced Userhow are you sending emails? webmail? or something else?
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe NAS can't send emails. Perhaps the email alert settings on the NAS are wrong?
Is the DNS server correct? - dsm1212ApprenticeDo you have upnp enabled on the settings tab? You might want to try with that one turned off. It shouldn't matter but it's possible it's interfering with the router in some strange way that overlaps with your mail server settings.
steve - dsm1212ApprenticeOr you have the static ip of the mail server set on your nas...
- dobbsyAspirantThanks for all the reply's
We are on a static Ip with virgin and the router is set DHCP for all devices,
It only affects outlook everything is working fine until Nas is switched on then outlook 2013 fails to send any emails on all computers. Will turn off Upnp off on monday and give that a go.
Its definitely blocking it somehow, Firewall logs dont show anything on the router and I have removed my email from the alert details from the Nas as well.
