Endless "Restarting Now. See you soon." Messaage
I have a 4 month old NetGear ReadyNAS RN104. The unit prompted me to upgrade my software last night and I clicked ok without thinking. No pre backup and not sure what versions. And like so many before me the install seemed to be fine up until it went to restart. It is displaying the "Restarting Now. See you soon." message for the past 18+ hours. I read all the previous threads where this has happened to others, but I have not seen a definitive response on what to do. I have a ton of data on it and do not want to risk it tanking and have to rebuild it. Is there any definitive answer to what needs to be done here? Can I restart it safely or should I wait? Currently doing nothing to be safe. Thanks in advance.

What do you see in RAIDar for the unit? What about on the display on the front of the NAS?
Which services and apps are you running?
Are you using NIC Teaming/Bonding, Jumbo Frames, WOL etc.?Welcome to the Community!

Thank for the reply.
RAIDar does not detect it. The admin web interface initially displays "NetGear ReadyNAS Version 6.4.0" and nothing else, but then switches to a page that essentially say it is not available. If I ping the IP address, it does not respond. The display on the unit itself says what I stated originally, "Restarting Now. See you soon." All four drive lights are lit and the power button\light is flashing consistently. It has been this way for approximately 22+ hours.
No special services or applications. No special network connections. Single Gig Ethernet connection. This is literally a network file share device. There are about 5 separate shares. It has 12TB setup RAID 5 with maybe 3-4TB of data total on it.
While this is my first time personally logging in here I am not the newbie that you might think I am. I deal with several larger enterprise NetGear NAS devices here as well. I understand the technology and did my due diligence prior to posting. The forum here has many people discussing the same issue post software updates. Most people have powered down the unit (usually by unplugging it) and had varying results. Sometimes it comes back without issue other times they have had to do a lot of work to recover it. My question is what is the party line on this situation? Do I power it down and risk having to restore it or let it be and see if it comes back on its own? Could it be just implementing the changes associated with the software update that occurred?

The 6.4.0 upgrade faq is here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30107/~/readynas-os-6.4.0%3A-faqs-on-upgrading-firmware
Your symptoms seem a bit different from the ones in the faq (the display doesn't show "booting"). It might be a failure to shut down, and since it isn't showing up in RAIDar, it probably makes sense to contact support.
Though it seems to me that they'll have to tell you to forcibly power down at some point, otherwise they can't get in and troubleshoot. The only real question is how long should you wait before you do that.
