Error: The file name(s) would be too long...

I'm trying to copy files from a Windows 7 NTFS drive & get the error: "The file name(s) would be too long for the destination folder. You can shorten the file name and try again, or try a location that has a shorter path.". I understand the problem (there are some very odd filenames in this drive) but don't understand why I am getting it when the NTFS discs are quite happy. Is the ReadyNas (XRAID) FAT32? can I reformat as NTFS, or is there another issue?
Cheers

  • I ran into this probolem, and after reading this post went back and mapped a network drive instead of copying to the network share. It copies just over 3 times faster! going to the share it was running at 10mb per second. Going to the mapped drive it is running at 31mb per second.

    What a difference! :D

Lets hope that the mapped drive will eliminate the filename too long error. I won't know for a couple of hours while it copies again.
