Failing drive(s) help!!!
IReadyNAS NV+ with 2 500GB drives mirrored.
Drive 2 has been increasing in reallocated sectors over the past 3 weeks. It is now at 74. In fact, today it went from about 43 to 74.
Drive 1 had a SMART event back in January. It shows ATA Error Count of 630. This occurred in January but has not changed since.
2 questions:
1. I probably should replace both but am not sure which I should change out first.
2. If I cannot do this for a couple of days, should I power down in order to keep the drives safe?
Thanks. I ordered a drive but they sent the wrong thing so I may have to wait till Tuesday.
Help! :-) Thanks

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI'd replace drive 2 first.
I'd also keep the NAS running, but try not to write new data to it. Then hot-insert the new drive when you get it.
If you don't have a backup, then try making one now. - GJJAspirantThanks....
One of the Netgear tech people said to shut down and swap the drive. ?
I am going to use a drive (same model and capacity) pulled from another NAS (same model). I will reformat it first on a PC .
I have a new drive on order but am afraid to wait too long. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIts best to hot-insert the new drive.
Also, its also somewhat better to delete the partitions on the replacement, and not format it as a PC drive. (with Windows, right click on computer, then click manage. Scroll down to the disk section, and locate the disk. Right click on every volume on the drive and delete it).
I like to keep a spare on hand to avoid delay.
