Fixing read/write speeds (older device but updated to latest OS)

So, I've had this device for some years now and it's done me really well, but recently things have really just slowed up. I've installed the latest OS updates and have plenty of space on drives etc.

I'm wondering if you guys can help me run some tests and figure out if i'm seeing expected results, and if not what i can do to improve them and get my speeds back!

I've mainly noticed this whilst transferring large files over network, trying to sort photo collections etc. I'm only getting 3-5mb/s writes.

I looked over this thread: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/Readynas-104-Slow-transfer-speeds/td-p/1204796 and ran some iperf tests, but can't find where the output from this "NAS performancetester" comes from, is it the EOL Intel software? Any help here to properly test is greatly appreciated!

IPerf gives me this end result

RX:

[ 18]  0.0-21.1 sec  22.2 MBytes  8.84 Mbits/sec

[SUM]  0.0-21.1 sec   225 MBytes  89.5 Mbits/sec

TX:

[ 14] 0.0-20.4 sec 16.4 MBytes 6.72 Mbits/sec
[SUM] 0.0-20.4 sec 228 MBytes 93.4 Mbits/sec

NasTester is a simple freeware utility that copies a file from the PC to the NAS (and vice versa), and measures the transfer speed.  You can find it here: http://www.808.dk/?code-csharp-nas-performance

It looks like your network is only fast ethernet (100 mbits).  Can you confirm?

Also, can you give us some more information on your network?  For instance, are you accessing the files over wifi or powerline, are there switches on the connection path, etc.

Please do confirm that you are running 5.3.x firmware (if you are running 4.1.x then you actually have a duo v1).  Note the labels are confusing to many people, but the firmware version is definitive.

What gives that impression? All my switches and network cards are gigabit, all wired in CAT6

Test was run over ethernet, goes to a netgear switch then NAS

      As i said latest OS/firmware, I'm running 6.8.0. The device is a rackmount RN2120v2

Your label says duo v2, which is a very different platform.  I can see why you chose that (since RND2120v2 is very close to your part number), but it is incorrect.

It's extremely important that the platform be properly identified - "latest" OS firmware isn't informing enough for me, so I always ask for the actual version.  Thx for clarifying.

Your iperf results are consistent with 100 mbits, much less than you should see with gigabit.  You might want to check the negotiated speed at the NAS and the PC (and if the switch is managed, also check it on the switch).

You must have ssh access if you've installed iperf.  So you can also look at the NAS ethernet stats using ifconfig.
