Snapshots don't lock files or folders, since with btrfs they are built into the file system at a low level. If you have a snapshot for a folder, what happens is that as you update a file the old version is copied to the snapshot ("copy on write").
You could try changing the names in the web ui, and see if that is more reliable for you than SAMBA.
Virus Scanning off, DLNA not selected for folder. I had 2 windows open, a) Windows Explorer and b) Web UI both looking at the same share. Tried editing a folder name in Explorer and no joy, tried with Web UI and success.
Then I opened a file in Explorer (started a video) and was able to change the name of the file via Web UI while it was open and playing. It appears the Web UI is immune to the normal Windows file name edit reservation for open files.
