FORMATTING NAS DRIVES

Have just switched from running Time Machine on my Duo NAS back to a USB drive... Although I've un-ticked the option to Enable TM Support, I can't find (in Frontview) how to format my drive(s) to get rid of the TM partition (or whatever the Duo does to the drive(s) for TM's backup files). I.e. how do I get rid of the old TM files etc. to get all of the HDD drive space available once again?

Create a new share e.g. TMtemp

Login to CIFS as admin, and browse to the hidden ".timemachine" folder on the C share, you can do this by in the Finder selecting Go > Connect to Folder and typing "/Volumes/c/.timemachine"

Then also open in another Finder window /Volumes/c/TMtemp and move the sparse bundle to the TMtemp share. Then go into Frontview and delete the TMtemp share. This will get the NAS to delete the sparsebundle which is much faster than deleting it across your network.
  • Thanks for that reply... Only just got round to trying this, as I've been stupidly busy elsewhere!

Can't get this to work! When I do the Go, Go to Folder and type in /Volumes/c/.timemachine it says 'Folder cannot be found!'

As for the: Then also open in another Finder window /Volumes/c/TMtemp and move the sparse bundle to the TMtemp share. Don't know how to do this?!

And when I just open a Finder window and click on the 'nas-49-47-47 (CIFS)' link on the left of the Finder window; then click on the 'Connect As...' button; after a couple of seconds, the link disappears!!!!!

Other than removing each drive from the NAS and putting them into my Mac to format them there, and starting all over again, I really don't know what to do. I've tried calling support (in India!) and they're a waste of time!

What version of RAIDiator is on this unit?

You have to connect to CIFS as the first step for these steps to work.

If you open RAIDar (http://www.readynas.com/downloads) you will see the IP address of the NAS.

In the Finder, click Go > Connect to Server and type "smb://ip.address.of.nas"

When prompted for credentials enter the admin (Frontview) credentials.

If this still doesn't work I have some further suggestions you can try.

A last resort would be to backup your data and then do a factory default (wipe all data, settings, everything) e.g. via the web=admin interface of the NAS or via the boot menu: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu but it shouldn't need to come to that.
