The NAS will format them again anyway. The purpose of the format checks is to protect you from data loss (because many people presume that their data will be preserved when they add the drive to the NAS).
So if you want to do anything ahead of time, the best thing to do is zero the drives, so they have no format at all.
If you don't do that, you can still add the drive to your NAS, but there will probably be a prompt to confirm.
