FTP Performance

Hi there,

Just here to check if I am experiencing normal performance with my ReadyNAS Ultra 2 while transferring movies with FTP over the internet. My upload speed from the location of the NAS is 5Mb/s and the download speed from where I am downloading the files to my MacBook Air 2011 is over 50Mb/s. I'm using FileZilla.

I thought I would be downloading within the maximum from my upload, but now I am only getting 650kb/s and low/hi: between 500kb/s and 1Mb/s.

Is this normal? Cause, say if I want to watch a popular movie that I already have on my NAS that is like 4GB it is often quicker to download it via a torrent again to my Mac than to download it from my collection.

Thanks in advance!

What FTP speeds are you seeing if you transfer the movie on your home network?

Also, is it possible that your file speeds are actually in byte units (650 kilobytes per second? That would be 5 megabits per second.
  • You could be right in that. I'll test it when i'm in a different location again.
