Yes, if you used your public external IP you would have to change that every time your IP changes. You always want to make sure you up to date on your firmware. The latest being 4.1.7 for older spac based units and 4.2.18 for the x86 units. Is there anything particular about your DNS name? Was the setup working up until the DNS name expired? Use canyouseeme.org to verify if the port is open. It sounds like it is configured correctly. You may want to open a support ticket if you are on the latest firmware.
