gpt vs mbr for external storage
I wanted to mount a 3 GB WD red in an Orico 3519 enclosure on one of the esata ports of my 516 readynas. The 516 is running the latest firmware 6.2.1. When the drive was formatted using windows 7 disk manager as GPT with ntfs the 516 gave the error unrecognized filesystem. When I reformatted with MBR and ntfs everthing worked, but I only had access to 2 GB. Any suggestions. Thanks.

If you download the logs, what is the date in bios_ver.log - wayneamartinAspirantthanks for the suggestions
front and rear panel usb and esata alll give the error
External storage device is connected but the filesystem is not recognized
when a disk with gpt is used, every time I connect an mbr disk things work except of course the 2 gig limit

bios_date=07/03/2013 - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredPerhaps the USB enclosure doesn't support GPT?
Have you tried a different enclosure? - wayneamartinAspirantThanks for the help, there is some progress. The enclosure works fine on a PC, I do not have another enclosure to try. If someone has a known working enclosure for gpt and > 2 gig I will order one. When I connect the external drive to any port usb or esata I get the file system unrecognized, but then the drive and files are visible under the shares. Backup jobs only complete when I connect to the front usb. I guess I could live with that, but the unrecognized filesystem error and that only the front usb works for backup jobs puzzles me.
