Hang on power timer shutdown: 6.4.0, RN10400, RN10200

I have two ARM RN devices, a 104 and a 102. While the 104 had periodically suffered the hang on power timer shutdown in the past, the 102 never had after about a year. Upon upgrading to 6.4.0 however, the RN102 has hung two consecutive days, and when I came into the office Sunday to check up on things, the 104 had also hung.

I just wanted to get this out there, as other posts plus my own experience do suggest a problem.

        Hi powellandy1,

        Kindly answer the questions below:

        a. Is your NAS using the official released firmware v6.4.0 or still the beta version?

        b. Do you have a backup of all the data stored in your NAS?

        Regards,

    • Howdy DaneA, thanks for your reply!

The RN102 is at home, but I do have a backup for that so I will try things out this evening or tomorrow evening. I forgot to power it down last night and it hung again, BTW.

If the 102 issue is resolved then I will maybe try the office 104; I have a backup for the "important" data from a potential refresh a few months ago, but am still a bit hesistant about cutting loose the "disposable" data.

      Cheers,

      Kelly

I just tried to set power timer on our RN312 that is on firmware v6.4.0 and it seems to turn off/on on the desired time that I have set.  I set it to turn off by 11PM then it turn on by 12MN and it seems to work fine.  I do not have an RN102 or RN104 to test.

      • Just a quick update since I was prompted by the thread monitoring person or bot... some personal health issues has pushed this down the priority queue, but I intend to try with the RN102 as soon as I can update the backup. So, it's still "open".

        Cheers,

        Kelly

  • Good morning,

I have same issue since the update to 6.4.0, too.

I have a ReadyNAS 104 and I'm using the power timer since the beginning.

No problem shutting it down up to 6.2.4 firmware level.

Yesterday I updated to the official 6.4.0 version and this morning my ReadyNAS was not reachable.

So I went down into the cellar and found it hanging on shutdown.

The display was still showing Shutting down... and the power button was blinking.

I had to remove wall power to stop this.

After turning on wall power again, I could boot the ReadyNAS by pressing the power button without problems.

I read the recovery article referenced above but it describes recovery to fix boot issues, which I believe is not the case here.

Its all about the shutdown which does not complete and leaves the ReadyNAS unresponsive.

I'm angry about myself. Seems to be I'm unable to learn that I never ever should update to a new firmware level if the system is running error free :-(

I hate myself for doing the update yesterday - grrrrr

I hope Netgear will fix this soon.

    Regards... Holger

I agree and sorry for this. I made the update to this thread first and than found the other thread which I found to be more active than this one. Maybe it would be good to reference the 6.4.0 beta thread here.

        Thanks for all you feedback.
