hdd turn off?

Right now the drives do not spin down. Some posts from Netgear suggest that it is in their plans.
The best way to prevent damage is to connect up a UPS to the NAS (one of the models that has a USB interface that the RN102 can monitor). Also, you should put a backup strategy in place.
