Help backing up to HD attached to PC

If you want to transfer time machine backups, you would indeed have to get the sparse bundle. This is not a shared folder on OS6 and I doubt it was either on OS4.
I just can't see how you would do that without using SSH. This would require sharing the USB disk over network, mounting it on your NAS then copying.
Another option would be to edit apache file and have it list the contents of the directory then initiate the transfer from the PC to the USB disk.
For the copy, the drag and drop should work fine, but if you get an error this will begin from scratch. Ultra copier is an option. Carbon copy cloner is a well known option though I've seen it used instead of Acronis to create bootable recovery disks.
