Help: Cant Open any files PDF Word Xcel

We have a Duo Nas Drive on the network and its been running well for 18months (Ish). Now all of a sudden when you try and open any files be it PDF, Word, XCEL the various programmes report issues:
PDF File
"either not support file type or because fiel is damaged"
Word
"word cannot start converting"
Now I have logged onto the Nas Drive and apart from a log entry saying power had been cycled on the 3rd Nov (issue was there before that) There was no other issues shown. I have carried out a volunme scan and still the same issue with the files.
So what to do now folks? Like any files these are important but not sure how to proceed with this issue. Any help would be appreciated.
