HELP! No boot

Help me please. Yesterday my new NAS failed (I won`t mention make) so I went back to my NV+ that has been powered down for 2 weeks and when I push the power button nothing happens. I removed all the drives and still nothing. I now have no Access to my working files on the new NAS and can't get to the backup on the NV+. Any ideas? It is an NV+ RND 4000 V3.

  • OK. Did the scratch, put the old disks back in,booted and checked disks and volumes ok, the Firmware Shows as 4.1.8 (as I thought was on the unit before failure.) The Problem is that the share no longer Show up, the data is there and I can access all of it. but there is no share data showing. I am copying all the data off now (easier than retrieving the offsite backup, and will do a reset and reinitialize the drives and create new Shares with rights, good time to clean up user and Group lists.
Does this Sound like a good idea?

I am a bit puzzled - how are you accessing the data if the shares aren't showing up? Not showing up where???

There's no harm in rebuilding the NAS, I am just puzzled on what is broken.
  • Sorry, wasn't clear. I cannot see any share or user info in frontview. Also there is no user nor groups info, no health or log info showing but I can download logs. I can access the data from a network mapped drive but the access through login creds is erratic. Once logged in it is consistent which is a good thing as I am moving over 2tb to backup.
I hope this makes sense. The rebuild will clean up user and group rights to shares which was getting flaky anyways. I could probably get by with updating to latest ver but now is a good time to rebuild.

And thanks for the help. This forum help is the reason I will go with a readynas when I upgrade in the future.

Thx, this helps. Normally I'd suspect a full OS partition, but in that case downloading the logs usually hangs.

In any event, completing the backup is obviously the highest priority. If you wanted to avoid the rebuild, you could then try an OS reinstall. Though I think in your situation I'd likely do the rebuild.
  • OS partition is not full so I will try a reinstall. have a new problem. 2 folders ,out of thousands. have rights issues and won't let me copy them. Is there another way to copy them that would avoid the rights issues?

  • Next issue. I have 4.1.9 I can't update the system to .10. I have 1MB of memory and this may be the problem. Any way around this?

On the rights issues - you could try ssh, and use chown and chmod.

On the 4.1.9 upgrade - is there something particular you need 4.1.10 for? If not, just stick with 4.1.9.
  • I finally got 4.1.10 installed. Now I'll do a factory reset and see where we are.
  • StephanB,I am now good on all fronts. I have a problem with IE10 not showing a lot of the Frontview tables and it won't allow me to properly perform configuraion settings. When I use on older IE or Chrome or Firefox all seems to be ok.
Once again, thanks for all of your help.
