Stressful day, my new NAS is belly up and now my backup is. I have most of the important data offloaded on a offsite backup but getting it back online will be a nightmare. Hopefully when I get a replacement I can just install the 3 drives and go!

Keep all of your disks safe. I think the data is intact.

So when my RM`'d unit gets here what is the process for repopulating the Server? Will just be able to Pop the drives and boot? Somehow I don't think so.

It is almost that easy (since the RMA replacement will also be a sparc-based system).

First put in a scratch disk (by itself), and go through a factory install. If the NAS is running a different firmware version then your old one, then install your firmware on it manually. (you can google site:readynas.com for the firmware download if you need it).

Then power down the NAS, remove the scratch disk, and insert your current drives into the same slots they were in before. Turn it on, and you should be good to go.

you should be able to just put the disks in and boot it up it will boot from the disks so if the chassis is not on the latest firmware just boot it up and install the firmware.

4.1.9 4.1.10
the nas will boot up on 4.1.10 then download firmware and load it to the nas (4.1.10) then the chassis and the disks will both be 4.1.10

There are some cases where just plugging in the disks will not work - particularly if the chassis has very old firmware. Using a scratch disk, and then upgrading the NAS flash if needed is a bit safer.
