Help Please! ReadyNas Duo V2 continually rebooting after upgrade
My ReadyNas Duo V2 was working OK, but I saw it was not running on the most up to date firmware, so I decided to upgrade it. Big mistake, because it now will not boot up properly. It just continually reboots (power cycles) itself and cannot be seen on the network (either in Windows Explorer or on Raidair).
- I've tried OS reinstall using the boot menu - no change.
- I've tried factory restore using boot menu and an old laptop drive - no change
I've seen talk about a USB recovery, but it seems a bit ambiguous to me whether that applies to this product, what software and where to find it.
I'd really appreciate some advice here!
Just to close-off this thread - there was no fix in the end, despite some useful suggestions from mdgm.
So the lesson is if you have a Netgear device that is nagging you for a firmware upgrade think long and hard before you do it. You might be unlucky and it might brick your unit like mine!
I'm going to avoid buying Netgear in future.

Does it show in RAIDar if you try to boot into tech support mode?

Thanks for the reply.
No - when I try to boot to tech support mode, it does the same power-cycling behaviour. To be honest I'm not sure that boot menu is working, because OS restore and factory restor also did not work.
I tried USB recovery last night, but when I download the firmware, it is delivered as a .12 file, while the USB software expects a .img file. Even if I change the file extension to img, the software does not "see" the file. It seems like all recovery options are closed! I wish I had not followed the unit's instruction to upgrade it!

Is this a v1 or v2?. Please read this article to confirm: http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how-to-tell-whether-i-have-a-duo-v1-or-duo-v2-or-nv-v1-or-nv-v2/
The boot menu for the two is completely different to that for the other. Please make sure that you are following the correct procedure.
The 5.3.12 firmware image is for the v2 and the USB Boot Recovery procedure is completely different to the one for the v1.
