Hidden folders and access to a folder.

I am quiet new to NAS and also to Ready Nas RN102.. Using a Mac to manage the RN102.
Being searching to understand how the hidden functionality works?

I was able to make a folder hidden and also set specific folder to allowed to be accessed only by a specific user.
But I wanted to make the folder visible to a user only the folder only if he had access. Is this possible?

Also if I make the folder hidden , even as a admin I am not able to access/see the folder in the Finder(SMB).

Appreciate if the experts can clear my doubts..

"Hidden" means not visible to anyone, and it is not related to access permissions.

Thanks for clearing that out Stephen..
Is there anyway i could achieve to hide a particular folder from user1, who does not have access to that folder, but is visible to user2, who has access.
  • You could consider using home folders, which gives each user a private folder which should not be visible to other users.
Home folders lose one really important feature though: snapshots.
