How do I track random read/write I/O performance?

I have 2 ReadyNAS 3200's that are being used to host virtual machines on an NFS share.

I need to know what the I/O load on the ReadyNAS units are, but I can't seem to find any way to gauge that performance.

I asked Netgear support, and they sent me a way to check sequential read/write performance, but that isn't useful for this scenario. I need to know what the max random read/write I/O of this unit is, as well as what my average random read/write I/O is.

Any tips?

  • Just wanted to follow up on this. I contacted Netgear and they said there is no supported way to check disk I/O load (or even CPU load) on the ReadyNAS 3200.
  • the istat addon should work for cpu/memory/network loads, but requires an iDevice and the istat app (not free).

There may be some other web based monitoring addons in the x86 addon forum that may work too.
