How I got apt update and install to work (with Debian Jessie retired)
OK, so I started off creating my own local Debian repository. Not recommended -- it's a lot of work. But with a lot of Googling and experimenting, I finally got apt to work using an online source. ...

Thanks for the advice posted here:
I've done the update, which introduced one additional error which I've highlighted below.

I am trying to install a plugin for Lyrion music server (which installed successfully after the update), but I am getting an fatal error saying Kernel too old with one of the binaries used for the addon.
If I use the other binary I get other errors:
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/RaopBridge/Bin/squeeze2raop-linux-x86_64: /usr/lib/x86 _64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.21' not found (required by /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/I nstalledPlugins/Plugins/RaopBridge/Bin/squeeze2raop-linux-x86_64)

If I apt-get install libstdc++6 it is there and a much newer version.
So I seem to be stuck between the proverbial rock and a hard place.
Any advice welcome, I have of course presented this problem to the owner of the addon as well.

Nothing in this post is going to help you update the kernel. Even if you re-build the kernel, I doubt you can include what that package is looking for and maintain compatibility with the rest of the OS.
There are many packages you cannot update past a specific point because of Linux Jessie. I can't say if that package is one of them.
- vandermerweApr 27, 2025MasterI was expecting that to be the case. I wasn’t expecting to be able to update the kernel but the other error regarding components of C++ suggested that the version I had was newer than the version sought by the addon?
When I did the apt-get update I had an additional error not mentioned in your posts:
E: Failed to fetch https://apt.readynas.com/packages/readynasos/dists/6.10.9/updates/binary-amd64/Packages 403 Forbidden
Is this a problem? - SandsharkApr 28, 2025Sensei
That sounds like Netgear took down the server. Probably not a problem since everything in it is likely already installed in the NAS. But it would make it impossible to re-build the kernel.
