I was expecting that to be the case. I wasn’t expecting to be able to update the kernel but the other error regarding components of C++ suggested that the version I had was newer than the version sought by the addon?
When I did the apt-get update I had an additional error not mentioned in your posts:
E: Failed to fetch https://apt.readynas.com/packages/readynasos/dists/6.10.9/updates/binary-amd64/Packages 403 Forbidden
Is this a problem?

That sounds like Netgear took down the server. Probably not a problem since everything in it is likely already installed in the NAS. But it would make it impossible to re-build the kernel.
