Indeed, sources.list.d seems to be a place where apps can put their own sources.list and not worry that an OS update will change them. On my VM with Docker installed, it's sources list is there, called docker-cli-rnapp.list. Don't do anything with them. You need to put apt.conf and the updated sources.list in /etc/apt.

Nothing in the instructions tell you to do anything with apt.conf.d. apt.conf probably doesn't exist on your NAS prior to this. After you make the changes, you also need to do an apt-get update.

Apologies for not responding earlier. Realised my volume was read only so been backing up my content over the last few days. Did a factory reset so currently rebuilding the volume. Will retry after its all done.

Update:
After restoring to factory settings due to the issue that was keeping my volume in read only, I downgraded to 6.10.9 and it allowed me install Plex from the featured apps section. Was also able to update Plex with a .deb file without having to use the mods. Thanks again for your help.
