How to enable NFS for USB backup

I have read in many topics here in this forum about "use NFS" for the USB-HDD backup. Mostly when talking about rsync. "Use NFS for the initial backup, change to rsync afterwards".

But, how do I enable this.
I have NFS enabled as service, do I need to enable NFS for the USB share too?
Enable protocols for a share only concerns how to reach the share from outside the NAS, isn't it?

you would have to have a client that supports NFS as a service like Linux..... i dont think it will work the way you're trying to do it...

You may have mis-read or misunderstood the post(s) you are referring to as NFS is only for network access - often used for backing up to a 2nd NAS rather than USB

So unless you are trying to backup data over a network to a USB drive connected to the NAS (or from the USB drive to another networked device) then you do not need to use NFS at all

Thanks for your answer. This is what I thought, and yes it is a USB-HDD directly connected to the NAS.
