How to format USB drive in ReadyNas Pro 2?

So, I am getting an external USB drive for doing backups.

Do I need to format the drive before I connect it? Or will I be able to do that through front panel (or command line).

Also, what format would be best (don't plan to connect to computer).

Yes. EXT4 was added as an option in 4.2.22. You should see it as an option to format USB disks along with FAT32 and EXT3.
  • I am not seeing great performance writing to my EXT4 drive (ESATA). I am getting around 4MB/sec which seems about an order of magnitude less that I was getting with NTFS. It is a 3TB drive

(this is actually on my 316 running 6.2.1)
  • OK, venturing a guess that it's related to barrier=1 in the mtab. Any thoughts?

(drive it attached to same UPS as the ReadyNAS)
