How to turn off continuous protection?

I have been getting alerts that x% of my ReadyNAS storage has been used, with increasing values of x. Eventually I get a message that conitnuous protect is no longer available on that volume but will resume when there is space available.

How can I turn off continuous protection completely on that volume? I do not need it and I don't want the ReadyNAS working to keep it.

I've looked through the admin pages and cannot find anything related to this.

  • if you click on the share and then click settings, there is a tick box in there for continuous protection?

For 6.2 its slightly different - there's a new "never" entry in the snapshot frequency pulldown. There are checkboxes for compression and bit-rot protection. Either way, you need to do it share by share.

Also, you need to manually delete any existing snapshots as that is not done automatically.
  • Mike,
To turn off continuous protection, can you see the first screenshot in this link

Personally, I don't agree with continuous protection being enabled by default, out of the box
and think that hourly/ daily is more than sufficient for 90% of home or small business users.

Screenshot is from a V6.1.8 unit, and I have not used V6.2 yet.

The GUI reports that I have "0 snapshots" but continuous protection was enabled on two of my shares.

Where are the snapshot dirs located on disk? eg: I looked in /data/Pictures for a ".snapshot" dir, but didnt see anything.

Go into via the web admin interface, select the share and then choose "recover" That will give you the list of snapshots, which you can delete.
  • ok good.. Thanks for the confirmation.

RECOVER is grey'd out on all my shares, so I've got no snapshots to hunt down and delete.
