I can't regain ownership of files

Hi.
I have just upgraded from a Duov1 to a RN102, latest firmware on both.
I transferred my old data to new nas using nfs backup to push from old to new nas.

I basically use ftp to connect and upload / download
I mainly use the nas as a media server.

Since transferring the data I cannot rename / delete the files from the 102 via ftp.
I have tried different combinations of permission in the share settings however it is not as explicit as the old nas.
I appear to have a 't' at the end of the permissions on my sub folders that i can't clear (not sure if this is significant)
The 'owner' of my files on the old nas is called something different to the new nas and the 102 won't let me take complete ownership of my data.
I'm a bit stuck.
If anyone gets the gist of what I'm getting at and needs some more info I will be happy to help

Thanks

David

The way I read it, you are specifying whether the file permissions for the owner and the group the owner is in - not telling the system to set the owner to a different user. The default access screen on my RN102 doesn't have any reference to "admin"
  • Folder owner and folder group is what is selected on the default permissions
On the main page folder owner and folder group is set to admin.
It doesn't reference 'admin' directly on the default permissions page

Correct. And the folder owner/group on the main page only applies to the share root (it is not recursively applied). That's a bug in my opinion, though I don't know if Netgear agrees.
  • I'm not entirely sure the use of the default permissions page in that case if it doesn't apply the settings recursively.
I do agree with what you have put.
Atleast I can now delete and rename files in that share.

The reset control is recursive, but has hard-wired permissions and ownership.

What I want is for reset to use the configured owner/group and default permissions.

Then perhaps a separate control to "use default" for people who want to go back to guest/guest with full access for everyone.
