I have a similar problem as InterClaw in post [NAS not starting any services #25220444]
ReadyNas 4 Pro 4 | 4 WD Caviar-Black Drives (SATA 64 mb cache WD2001FASS)
8 spares - (1 recently flaged as failed - and replaced) 7 remain
Firmware: 4.2.31
OS: Original
Everything was working perfect until yesterday.
The service settings disappeared an I could not reset them. when I place a checkmark on any service they will disappear when I click apply. The security is set to Domain, but is now does not recognise the users, probably because CFMS is disabled? when I look at the shares it starts to systematically removed them from my view of RAIDar even though I am logged in as admin. Eventually, after responding to all the system messages telling me that the users are not found so shares are being removed, I can no longer see. them. When I reboot, they are still there in RAIDar as admin, but then they start to disappear again.
Do I also have a OS issue similar to Interclaw? I have been re-organizing that data, now backups are old, I was just finishing the project, and ready to create new backups, but right in the middle of that I lost access to the shares in mid-process.
No valid back of all the work completed! Please help and advise - soonest. The volume shows as healthy, and is about 50% full, so the data in still there.
What next?
Blessings, Chuck

That looks like an old case number in the thread title.
Sounds like a full 4GB root volume or some other reason for configuration becoming corrupt.
If you have SSH already enabled and can connect it's easy to investigate using that.
Alternatively there is tech support mode (a boot menu option).
There are a number of threads describing how to troubleshoot a problem like this (well at least dealing with the full 4GB root volume part if that's the issue, not necessarily with addressing config problems).
