Hi All, I have a head scratch of a problem here A client's netgear nas has recently been playing up and share folders seem to be hit and miss. I have one folder shared out but it is hidden ...

I agree it's very strange. Maybe try resetting the NAS admin password, and see if that has some effect on the behavior.

Well, again - check the credentials that the PC is using when accessing the NAS. If you see data and home in the share list, the NAS is being given admin credentials.
All Credentials are removed from the Server. I have even tried browsing from workstations that have never browsed that NAS and its the same isssue. Again, both user accounts display the same results. As StephenB mentioned you'd have to be logging in as the admin user to see data and home shares.
I see no problem with the configuration on the NAS.The backup files on your volume are owned by a mixture of the admin user and the user you created presumably for running backups?

Resetting the Admin and backup user account has cleared up the issue, until the NAS was power cycled and had the same issue..
Ended up factory resetting the nas and the issue has not come back since
