IP Address Issues

Hi,

I have the following set-up:

ReadyNAS RND4000v2
Firmware: RAIDiator 5.3.10
4 x Seagate 3TB

I've had it up and running for a few months, and only been using it now and then, mainly to transfer my media content onto it for streaming via the network for file back up purposes.

I'm experiencing 2 main issues:

1) IP address - This keeps on changing, which is then impacting the devices I am using to try and view my files on the network. Through RAIDar software, I've noticed that the IP address changes itself from time to time, i.e. 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.5, 192.168.1.4, 192.168.1.6, etc. I have to go into the config each time and select DLNA share to access my content again through the network. How do I fix the IP address, so it's always the same one?

2) Admin Access - More recently, I can't even access the admin page by typing 192.168.1.2 for instance into a browser. At first I thought it's because I'm not typing the correct address because as per above issue, it may have changed again. However, when I have confirmed through RAIDar, what the current IP address is, in Chrome I'm seeing the following "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to 192.168.1.2", I've even tried Internet Explorer as an alternative browser, but get "Page Cant be displayed"

Please can someone let me know if I not aware of something or doing it incorrectly.

Will a Firmware upgrade help?

Many Thanks

K

  • Can you access the dashboard using raider?
In the manual you will find information about network settings:
    http://www.readynas.com/download/docume ... Nov711.pdf

You can either set a static IP address in the readynas network settings or set a reserved address for the nas on your router or other dhcp server. if you set a static address, make sure it is not within the dhcp server range and that it conforms to the IP address format of other devices on your LAN.

As for the browser issue, try sorting out the IP address issue first, then clear the browser cache and try again.

A firmware upgrade will probably not help, but there is a newer firmware:
    viewtopic.php?f=148&t=78065

Are there any error messages in your logs?
Are the disks all healthy ( check smart data)?
    Do you have a backup?

Most routers support address reservation, and that is a better approach than setting a static address.
