Is it possible to set up a VLC-Server on Readynas Duo?
Hi Guys :D
My newest toy is a Dreambox 800 (Linux Receiver). It plays all MKV-Files well, but no avi oder divx-files.
I can stream them from my PC, when I start a VLC-Server on my PC. Would it be possible to set up this VLC-Server on the RND 2110 too?
Or is the RND not powerful enough?
Thanky for a quick reply!

- ablevyAspirantNot likely. It would be interesting to hear the answer for the NVX. My guess is it would run on the Pro Pioneer.
Alan - bahmanAspirantVLC server is a software based solution...given Squeezebox Server on a Duo just gets by with transcoding aac audio files, I would of thought transcoding videos would be a bit out of the cpu's league...
I think they've gotten it working on some of those Popcorn hour NMT's - not 720p/1080p videos though... - ablevyAspirantTversity will run on the HP servers and transcode video. My understanding is that they are using Intel cpu's with similar power to that of the Pro Pioneer.

just installed VirtualBox 3.1.6 as described here
http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=26468&hilit=VirtualBox#p145780
within a VM running lubuntu 10.04 I installed vlc... and everything works like a charm, my kids are watching a DVD being streamed by my ReadyNAS Pro to a Dreambox 7025 right now...
I'm sure you could compile vlc for the ReadyNAS Pro or maybe the vlc 0.8.6 backport for etch would work with the Dreambox... however I need the VM for other things and it was easier to install vlc within the VM ;)
regards
Marko - peebeeAspirantI know, this is kinda old, but to set up a VM I suppose you need to have more knowledge than installing an addon!?
Or is it that easy? Aren´t there now models that support such a function like streaming VLC in HD quality? - chirpaLuminaryThe Duo will not run a VM, not enough cpu/memory horsepower. The Ultra/Pro would work.
