iSCSI and OS X Lion

iSCSI and OS X Lion

I'm trying to get my feet wet with iSCSI and have hit a roadblock

http://www.readynas.com/?page_id=815

http://www.snsftp.com/public/globalsan/

Using the initiator and instructions from the link above I connected to a 2GB iscsi volume on my nas 6 ultra plus (4.2.17). It's shown as connected via system preferences, frontview shows LUN 0 with a 2GB capacity, but I don't see the volume anywhere. Disk Utility doesn't see it either. I selected no authorization. Did I miss a step?

  • I purchased the ATTO Initiator last night after upgrading to Lion and not being able to access my iSCSI shares. It works like a charm...

Previously I was using the globalsan Initiator but after upgrading to Lion it kept saying the driver was not loaded. I uninstalled and reinstalled but it would never mount the iSCSI shares.

Looking like this will be my plan as well. Hopefully I get more consistent performance than I experienced with the latest globalsan client on SL.
  • I purchased and installed the ATTO Xtend iSCSI Initiator last night and can report that performance so far has been more consistent and faster than with the latest GlobalSAN client on 10.6.8. Setup was a breeze; it took longer for them to send the serial number and activation key via email. It was definitely a lot of money, but I think it will be worth it in the long run.
  • Bit late to the party, but I can attest that yes, the ATTO software works under Lion.

On my 10.6.8 MacPro using the GlobalSAN client, I can easily saturate GigE - but that's coming from an SSD and 4x 10k RPM disks in RAID0. The factory iMac 7200rpm disk is sloooowww... I'll have some faster media to copy FROM tomorrow (Pegasus R6 over Thunderbolt), and can see if the performance is as good or better using the ATTO client, but I do expect it to be. It isn't as "simple" re: interface but nothing too daunting once you get past the term differences like login (atto) = connect (globalsan) etc. So far so good, will add to this post in a day or two.
  • I have been using ATTO starting with snow leopard and now Lion. It has worked without any problems. I am glad that I have been able to avoid all the problems people are apparently having with globalsan.

  • So far the ATTO XTEND SAN software works great - same (not noticeable difference, but able to easily saturate GigE) performance. Still not enamored with the interface but it works well, is stable, and was only $200.
