While QNAP / Thecus and Synology are all releasing new hardware en supercool firmwares... its all so quiet at the Readynas section.....What are you guys cooking??

I hope you're right TeknoJnky. A desktop ReadyNAS with more than 6 bays would be nice. I'm running out of space. I would like to see Thunderbolt. There are some interesting possible applications for that.NetGear tends to announce new ReadyNAS products just before release. Till then they are kept top secret. Though NetGear did announce the new Smart Network store that is currently being developed (see http://www.netgear.com/smartnetwork)Now there was the slip of a possible RAIDiator Enterprise 5.0.0 firmware recently (http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=61670) though the page referenced has since been removed. This suggests that a major firmware update is likely in development.Considering the ReadyNAS release history (http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=41542) one would possibly expect updates late this year. Pro was released Q4 2008 and Pro 6 was released late 2010. It's possible they could go for a shorter cycle this time, but they may not. Of course they could simply add new additional products and keep the existing product lines. Best advice would be to buy when you need it as there's always going to be newer better products coming out over time.One shouldn't forget the new Duo v2 and NV+ v2 (ARM products) released late last year with the brand new Dashboard web interface. These are very good NAS units. There are features planned to be added to the ARM products such as FTP. The ARM products are suitable for home users and very small businesses.

I may consider getting this if Netgear carry on with 'scratching their hed" support with my customer's ReadyNAS NV+ V2 (4 bay with 2x2tb drives)The V2 interface in...hmmm.ok but main problem was that it did not accept/keep/remember a hostname that was entered. Other little gripes were you click on 'download logs' (to send to support) but the button does not appear to do anything nor does it tell you where it downloaded the log to if indeed it did work. Not only is it quiet on the Hardware side, there seems to be little progress on new firmwares. 4.2.20 has been Beta for 7 months and it is only a collection of fixes. Hopefully this spring has something in store.

Not every update is a major update.With 4.2.20 NetGear appears determined to have an extremely stable release with very few issues. This suggests to me that they may be looking to release 4.2.20 and then shift focus to a major update but I may be wrong. 4.2.20 should be pretty close to a production release.

NetGear has announced their new Smart Network (one thing related to the ReadyNAS that has been announced well in advance), but no ETA on that either I think. Take a look at http://www.netgear.com/landing/smartnetwork/

Looking at the Duo v2 interface (see the Duo v2 software manual: http://www.readynas.com/docs) should give some indication of the kind of thing NetGear would probably be likely to do with a refresh of the x86 UI. A new modern look that retains some similarity with the old UI (but some major differences too) so that it's easy to make the switch from using the old UI to the new one.

Meanwhile Thecus offers their OS "ThecusOS 5.0", Synology their OS "DSM 4.0"...
I check for news each month on Netgear site, but nothing arrives...
I feel a little bit abandoned by Netgear...

What would be really cool! If they made the ReadyDATA OS available to all x86 Readynass Business devices.

Should be no problem and would ROCK the WORLD!!

Here's another vote for home NAS with more bays than 6. Both Qnap and Synology have 8-bay devices in the Ultra segment, and there's even a consumer 12-bay NAS from Synology, which I have to admit I really want (or lust for). I currently run a HP Mediasmart Windows Home Server (4x1tb), Readynas Ultra 6 (6x2TB) and a Synology DS411 (4x3tb), and I'm planning to phase out the WHS in favour of another NAS, and I would love to have an 'upgrade path'. A 12-bay Ultra that would allow me to transplant my current 6 drives would be a dream :-)

Come on, Netgear, give us some new, exciting, bigger hardware!
