Lost volume
Hi all,
I have a readynas nv+ with a simple raid 1 set up: 2 x 1.5TB drives being volume 1; and 2 x 1TB drives being volume 2. But I was tired of the slow ethernet cable speed of this nas so purchased a thunderbolt nas 2 drive (OWC elite pro dual) and began getting the files copied over.
I pulled one 1.5TB drive out of the nv+ and put it in bay 1 of the thunderbolt nas. I didn't read at all - turns out this is the norm with nas drives but I didnt realise at the time. So i put the drive back in the NAS and then saw that I had totally lost volume 1. It just doesnt show up at all.
To get the files over from volume 2 I pulled out one drive, formatted this in the thunderbolt nas, and am now in the process of copying all the files across. Once done and after checking everything copied ok, I'll then get the other nas drive and format this in the thunderbolt.
But I still need the files from the 2 x 1.5TB drives and volume 1. Where would this have gone?!
Thanks,
Darryn

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe Thunderbolt DAS (Direct Attached Storage) may have wiped the disk. You could ask OWC if they automatically wipe disks that you put into it. One of your disks may have no partition table on it in which case the OWC device may have wrongly concluded it was blank.
I strongly recommend backups and this is one of the reasons why. - darrynmAspirantThanks. Yeh I guess that might be the case.... When I turned on the thunderbolt nas I had a mac osx prompt saying "drive not readable" and I choose the "ignore" option so assumed that meant the drive was untouched.
I'm going to try data recovery on the drives and see if I can pull the files off that way.
Just seems weird the volume 1 disappeared even with a raided setup :(
