I'm not a mac guy, but I do see a post that might help here: http://alex.zheng-dynasty.com/2013/10/imovie-10-network-drives/
The idea is to create a disk image on the NAS from your Mac, and then mount that disk image on the Mac. That disk image should be on the NAS volume (e.g, the internal drives). Then you'd copy the iMovie stuff to the disk image.
It's an old post, so maybe test it with a small library first.
