- francois_75015AspirantOh ! Oh ! I noticed a "little" thing : using the rsync command created a strangely-named .sparsebundle file on the nas ! the en0 data was separated by "/" characters. I removed the "/" in the name and it worked !
On the nas I had a Obelix_0/2x/x2/da/cx/76.sparsebundle file tha I renamed Obelix_02xx2dacx76.sparsebundle
That's all folks ! Thanks for your help
F - Blues11LuminaryEarlier in this thread Han Solo posted this URL:
http://www.readynas.com/?page_id=756
showing a Frontview screenshot for the Backup section with three tabs, the third being "Time Machine." It says it's only available now for the Pro.
I don't have this option on my Pro so my question: Is this in Beta or has there been an update to what I'm running, RAIDiator 4.2.1?
Thanks. - bollarAspirant

Yes, it's only in the beta now. - Blues11Luminarybollar, just wanted to say thanks for the quick and direct response.
Are there any hints to when this beta might be released?
Blues - oogiemAspirantI tried to follow the instructions on the link near the top of this thread and discovered 2 big issues.
If you upgrade 10.4 from a Leopard CD there are 2 additional steps you must do.
You must Install the Developer tools xTools from CD extras and you must download and
Install 3.0.3 rsync from the Apple site.
The -E function is not in the standard Leopard rsync
Once you do that it does work. - imac12AspirantHaving a small issue, hopefully its just my inexperience with Mac/Unix. I followed all of the steps, but keep getting this error...
Every time I start the TM backup, it mounts the volume and comes back with the error "The backup volume is read only. Please select a different..." etc etc.
I've checked the AFP and CIFS shares on the NAS and everything is set to read/write. It's set to connect as the admin, the only user account. I can write to the share without issue.
Any ideas? - jhschlakAspirantHello, can the new time machine trick shown here: http://www.readynas.com/?page_id=756 be performed with the readynas duo? I would really like to use timemachine on my readynas, but I can't get the 15 step method to work.
Thanks,
Jeff - sirozhaAspirantNow that the Time Machine backup to the ReadyNAS is no longer a hack but a supported feature, are there any instructions on how to restore after a hard drive crash? I am not talking about restoring a particlular file from the Time Machine backup but rather restoring the entire Time Machine backup to either a clean hard drive or to a clean OS X install?
There has been a lot of effort made by this community as well as by Netgear to get the Time Machine backup feature working with the ReadyNAS. However, all those efforts are not worth much if the full restore from Time Machine is not possible.
If it is possible, can the instructions be posted?
Also, is it possible to restore the Time Machine backup to a different Mac? For instance, if I replace my Macbook Air (Rev A) with Macbook Air (Rev B), can I restore my Time Machine backup to the new Macbook Air? - Blues11LuminaryWhat happens when you boot from your OS X DVD? If it doesn't allow you to connect to the ReadyNAS I don't know if restoring your Mac's hard drive is possible directly from the ReadyNAS. However, you might be able to copy the file where you were doing your TM backups (the sparsebundle file) to an external drive that you can connect via Firewire. Then you ought to be able to restore the hard drive from that image.
I don't have any knowledge about restoring from one version of the MBA to another. If there are actual hardware differences between the two machines the restore may not work either at all or properly. But first things first. See if you can get the drive restored. (FWIW, I've done it from an external Firewire drive and it worked perfectly.)
Good luck. - sirozhaAspirant

Neither one of my Macs have firewire -- Apple discontinued firewire on new Macbooks and never had it on the Macbook Air.
Do you know if Apple has directions on how to restore from a Time Machine backup housed on Time Capsule? If they do, I guess I could try that. However, at this point I just want to know if anyone has done this and if so, can he/she post step-by-step directions?
Also, this question was addressed to Netgear developers as well as to the community. Since Netgear have made this functionality into a supported feature, are you guys planning to release instructions on how to restore from a Time Machine backup?
