media share set to webroot after 4.2.19 upgrade
Hello,
I have a ReadyNAS Ultra 4 Plus and I just upgraded to RAIDiator 4.2.19.
Now my media share is the same as the webroot share.
I was going to delete and re-add the media share but a dialog box gave
the following warning:
Deleting the selected share(s) will destroy all data the share(s). Are you
sure you want to delete the share(s)?
It sounds like it will delete all the files in the share and I didn't want to do that.
I looked in /etc/frontview/samba and found Shares.conf and Shares.conf-sav
with what appears to be incorrect data (the files are identical)
[backup]
path = /c/backup
comment = "Backup Share"
oplocks = 1
force create mode = 0666
create mask = 0666
force directory mode = 0777
directory mask = 0777
admin users = "admin","Administrator"
writeable = 1
guest ok = 1
[media]
path = /c/webroot <------------------------????????
comment = "Media Server Share"
oplocks = 1
force create mode = 0666
create mask = 0666
force directory mode = 0777
directory mask = 0777
admin users = "admin","Administrator"
available = 0
valid users = "admin","Administrator","nobody"
write list = "admin","Administrator"
I changed the media path in both files from "/c/webroot/" to "/c/media" and
then did a "/etc/init.d/samba restart"
At this point everything was back to mormal, I could see all my media files
in "/c/media" through the media share.
I wanted to make sure my fix would survive a reboot, so I rebooted the NAS.
The trouble came back, Shares.conf and Shares.conf-sav returned to their
incorrect data fill.
Does anyone know the proper way to fix this trouble?
In case it's is relevant, I have the following add-ons installed:
PHP. PHP+Mysql Support
Subsonic. Media Stream Server
Transmission. P2P Client
WordPress. Blog Software
Thanks
Jim

- HephAspirantHi! Just joined forum in an effort to get my readyNAS business pro functioning well again. my compliments to super_poussin who i see designed the NAS version of PS3 Media Server. i have been struggling to deal with RAIDiater 4.2.19 and loading media server add-ons on same day. I managed to remap windows explorer to \c\media so i am now in business again. I have updated to 4.2.20-T4 but still cannot communicate to PS3 with PS3 media server. I have installed ssh and 'copy and pasted' p-s's recommended fix (by notepad) into a file which i have renamed Shares.conf-sav (I hope this is how it is done). I have got hold of putty and have made connection ok to my NAS. What command line do I need to achieve overwrite of this file? Sorry if this is silly - my first venture into linux commands.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredTo edit a file, you can use "vi" (google for instructions on how to use it).
- HephAspirantThanks - I'll do that
- teizAspirantI'm having the same issue here. However just fixing the Shares.conf and Shares.conf-sav doesn't resolve the issue for me :(
I basically remove any reference to /c/webroot from the /etc/frontview/samba directory (aside from the actual Webroot.conf file) and still it keeps reverting to the wrong setting.
I tried logging into the NAS as soon as possible during the boot process and I noticed that Shares.conf was being modified during the boot process.
dump #1:
[media]
path = /c/media
comment = "Media Server Share"
oplocks = 1
force create mode = 0666
create mask = 0666
force security mode = 0666
force directory mode = 0777
directory mask = 0777
force directory security mode = 0777
admin users = "admin","Administrator"
writeable = 1
guest ok = 1
path = /c/webroot
writeable = 1
As you can see the path setting at the top is still at /c/media. However at the bottom of the section another path setting has been added.
When I dumped the file another time (1 second later) the top path setting was replaced with the bottom one:
[media]
path = /c/webroot
comment = "Media Server Share"
oplocks = 1
force create mode = 0666
create mask = 0666
force security mode = 0666
force directory mode = 0777
directory mask = 0777
force directory security mode = 0777
admin users = "admin","Administrator"
writeable = 1
guest ok = 1
Is it possible that one of the addons is doing this at boot time? The only addon I have installed recently is Squeezebox, which I guess I'm going to remove now..
This is a very annoying issue and I hope netgear will soon release a non-beta release to fix this...
Cheers Thijs - wvkregAspirantHi
I have the same problem. I downgraded to 4.2.17 but did not help.
I can now also not reach the webpage to config or update the rndu6000.
pls advise / help.
I did an OS reinstall using the reset button, that also didnt work. :((( - PidslyAspirant
slacker wrote: I just downgraded to 4.2.17 and my media share is working as expected now. However, I have a new webroot share which I can't delete or my add-ons will stop working....
The problem is definitely in the 4.2.19 update.
I too have lost access to my media files. Squeezecentre still accesses them, but I cannot through windows explorer. I installed Transmission and then updated readyNas Pro to 4.2.19.
Whats the easiest fix for me please. I do not know how to edit config files and am I very inexperienced user.
Thanks for any help given. I could really do with a step by step idiots guide how to rectify this issue.

Hi just so you know. I have no knowledge of linus, shh and any other programming. However, I too seem to have fallen victim to the4.2.19 upgrade. I now cannot "see" my media folder wich should contain my music and photos. Instead I have another media folder which is empty apart from a transmission subfolder.
I have now ugraded to 4.2.20. All the shares now seem to be visible in frontview. However, I still cant see my media files. What can I do the sort this? Do I need to bring my media folder from backup. Will I need to delete the media folder from shares on frontview and through windows explorer.
Please help. Thanks - bfhicksAspirantI, too, am having this issue. I've modified the Shares.conf-sav, but it keeps getting over-written. And, to answer anyone's questions about where your media has gone, it did not get erased from the drive. I can still see all of my data via SSH, but am unable to see it via explorer. The DLNA still works fine.
Has anyone found a solution to this or perhaps what the rogue process is that is causing this issue?
