Migrating TimeMachine Sparsebundle from LACIE to ReadyNas102

Hello all

I have a Lacie NAS with my TimeMachine backup in it. The sparsebundle is nearly 1TB. I would like to move it to a private TimeMachine in my ReadyNas 102. I would like to do as follow, and I would like to know if I am correct.

1 - connect my LaCie to the RN 102 via eSATA if possible.

2 - in front view, copy the sparsebundle from LACIE to a share in the ready NAS

3 - in my mac Finder, via SMB, I move the sparsebundle from the share to the timemachine folder, making it visible with the "command+shift+." trick.

4 - now my doubt is: can I choose the "mac book pro" in TimeMachine when I select disk?

Am I doing it right?

Thanks very much for any support.

Mac OS 10.12.4 Sierra

ReadyNAS OS 6.6.1

  • It is probably easier to add the ReadyNAS Time Machine as an additional backup source on the Mac, and let it do a full sync.  The Mac Time Machine client has supported multiple backup destinations for a while now - OS X Yosemite: Use multiple backup disks - Apple Support

Once completed, you can remove the LaCie Backup destination from the Time Machine client.

The eSATA on both the Lacie and the RN102 are intended to connect to disks - not other NAS or PCs.  So I think step 1 will fail.

On the RN102, timemachine backups are kept in a hidden timemachine folder in the data volume (.timemachine).  I'm not a Mac user, so I don't know whether you will be able to restore the backups from the RN102 after you move them.

Thanks! I didn't know about multiple backups.

This solution is much esier. I'll keep the two backups and eventually remove the Lacie when needed.
