Mirror existing NAS to new NAS?
Hi everyone,
After my close call with almost losing a volume (viewtopic.php?f=66&t=55910), it is time to seriously consider moving to dual-redundancy for my main NAS with a complete kept-up-to-date backup. Right now my backups are fragmented onto various devices and recovery would be very time-consuming.
The solution seems to be a second 6-bay NAS (probably a Pro 6). The plan would be to set up the new NAS with dual redundancy and this would be the primary device. I would then want to clone the existing NAS data onto the new one with my original NAS becoming my backup device. I initially thought ReadyNAS Replicate would do this given its name, but this doesn't appear to be the case (viewtopic.php?f=138&t=56447).
Is there a recommended guide for efficiently moving to a new NAS?
Thanks!

- Sunday_Afterno1AspirantThanks Papabear - I obviously can't read...
- PapaBear1ApprenticeIt took me a few minutes to find it, and I was familiar with their site. Obviously Netgear isn't paying them enough to get a top billing any more. Amazon also has it, but it is $1085 rather than $975.
- Sunday_Afterno1AspiranteAegis gets my business again. I've purchased ALL my ReadyNAS from them. The only problem is that the free ground shipping from FL means that it will take a while to get to me here in CA. I have my drives & memory upgrade chosen and will use newegg in a couple of days to coordinate arrival of everything. Can't wait...
- Sunday_Afterno1AspirantThe new NAS is here and configuration is proceeding well.
- Firmware has been updated with a single drive as suggested by mdgm - it shipped with 4.2.15 which meant that the installed 3TB was incorrectly recognized as a 1TB drive. Updating to 4.2.19 followed by a factory default corrected this.
- The upgraded memory passed 7 runs of the Boot Menu >> Memory Test.
- All 6 drives were installed and a factory default performed again to build the array with dual redundancy.
- I interrupted the sync stage of the volume creation to do Boot Menu >> Test Disks. The packing of the HDDs from NewEgg wan't the best and I want to know sooner rather than later if any of the drives were damaged in shipment. The box is currently 75% through checking the disks so things are looking pretty good.
I'll update again when I have the new box fully configured.
