Most efficient way to move files between shares
I have a large quantity of media on my ReadyNAS NV+ which I want to move from share A to share B.
Using my PC to do this is very tedious (it's estimating nearly 20hrs to move about 200gb) - am I right in thinking that this is copying it down to my PC and then back up to the new location?
Is there a quicker way of doing this? ie doing the file transactions 'on' the NAS itself? Is this something that can be done through SSH, and if so, is there a noobie guide on this?
Thanks for the help!

- dbott67GuideYou can copy files from USB to NAS (and vice-versa) if you have SSH and WinSCP installed. You can also just create a backup job in Frontview.
Be sure to enable fast USB writes in Frontview to increase USB performance. - Thanks. I have SSH access enabled. Guess I'll have to research WinSCP.
Batch jobs from Frontview? On a Duo? - dbott67GuideWinSCP is a Windows GUI for SCP (secure copy, in linux parlance):
http://winscp.net/eng/index.php
Backup job, not batch job.
You can just create a backup job in Frontview to copy files to/from a USB drive that is attached to the NAS:
The files will just move between USB and the NAS, and won't have to traverse the network. WinSCP will work in the same way, but offer much more flexibility, as you will be able to work at a much more granular level (individual files & folders, as opposed to just folders).
-Dave - Thanks. I need to clean my glasses.

Thanks for this :D
But I have a concern.
I entered the net use command and was not prompted for a password. The command did complete and the drive is mapped. But I'm not logged on my PC as admin and not being asked for a password is a worry.
Any ideas anyone? - ivanekAspirant

Hello,
i have found you answer and it seams perfect if I would be able to make it. I have downloaded EnableRootSSH and ToggleSSH Add-ons for my ReadyNAS NV+. I am able to switch it on. I have downloaded and installed winscp. But I have no idea how to use/configure it to be able to copy and moce files on my Readynas NV+. I have tried to find something on thos forum as well as in Google but without success. Clould you help please?
I have also found some info about mucommander whoch could be also used for this purpose, but nothing more specific.
Ivan - dbott67GuideHi Ivan,
You would create create a new session with the following information:
Host name: IP address of NAS
Port number: 22
User name: root
Password: your admin password (default is/was 'netgear1')
File protocol: SFTP
- bigwest60AspirantYou can also install GNU Midnight Commander ("apt-get install mc") after logging into the readynas as root. Probably would transfer files faster since it runs directly on the host.
- you do not need togglessh, its only needed for techsupport use.

If your NAS is configured in "user mode" (not "share mode") you can map a drive to the C share and then drag & drop files/folders via the drive letter. The 'c' share is an administrative share (automatically built-in) and only accessible by the admin account. You can map a drive to it by opening a command prompt in Windows and entering the following command:net use r: \\ip.address.of.nas\c /user:admin
Enter the password for 'admin' to connect to 'ip.address.of.nas':
The command completed successfully.

Can I get confirmation that the "R" in that code is the drive letter path? (And thus I can change it to my liking?)
Also again can I customise the code a little by changing "\C" to \C\IN.THE.SHIRES.FOLDER /user blah blah?
Or would that cause problems?
