Moving files between shares
I'm moving files around on my ready nas, having setup backup jobs to copy all my data from an external USB drive to my shares.
Problem is, it's shockingly slow, taking hours to move folders of a few hundred meg. I've turned off all other devices on the network to eliminate traffic.
My setup:
Brand new ReadyNas Duo 2x500GB
Netgear DG834 Wireless router (b/g) connected to PS3, Yamaha amp, DSL broadband via CAT5e.
XP Desktop PC (Belkin wireless PCI card b/g/n) comodo firewall/AVG - can't cable this due to location!
XP Laptop (Wireless b/g) comodo firewall/AVG
What's the best way to generally perform day-to-day move/copy functions, as I would if it were a local drive? I've mapped the drives in windows (home/media/backup etc..) and want to move say from backup to my media/videos share.
I assume if I were to cable driect to the router that would be better (but sadly not practical), but surely if I just want to move something locally bettween shares on the NAs I can eliminate the overheads of wireless, without having to set a backup job every time I want to shuffle things around?!?!
Any help very much appreciated. :D

- mikuAspirantGuys,
I am completely lost. I am not Linux and DOS expert. I cannot programing something in command line. I am only Windows user :-(.
Is there any option to use speed transfer within ReadyNAS Duo v2 folders and use Win7 and maybe some add on like Windows Commander? - StephenBGuru - Experienced User

The way to do this is to access the full C volume on the NAS. That will show you all the shares. As long as you stay within the same windows explorer window, your moves will happen immediately. No add on is needed. In order to access the full volume you need to use the NAS admin credentials. More info is on the thread below.

There is no need to create an admin username via dashboard because it is hardwired in.
On the windows side, there are several options.
-use the Windows admin account also, and set the password to match the NAS
-use the windows credential manager, and create an entry for the NAS that includes the admin/password
These essentially use the admin account from that PC for all NAS access.
Another approach is to only use the admin account when you want to move files between folders. One way to do that is to use the net use command (by running cmd from the windows search bar)
From the command prompt you could type
"net use * /delete" to disconnect the PC from all network shares
"net use Z: \\NASNAME\C nasadminpassword /user:admin" which will then map the C volume to drive Z (substitute and free drive letter you like).
go to Computer, and click on Z to access the volume, moving shares around as you like (staying within the same explorer window).
then use the first command again when you are done. - mikuAspirantThanks Stephen.
I did 60 min ago with similar way.
I mapped new network drive in W7 (for NAS). I should use admin username and password and then ….I tested.
As you wrote, moving files within NAS (same Volume, I have JBOD configuration and only one HDD) from one share to other one happened immediately. Great!
And you can use 2 explorer windows (one with current file destination and other one with new destination, then only drug and drop ...and it is)
