NAS is very slow, to see the files in the computer take for ever

I user netgear a lot but this time in a client I'm having problem, we have around 400 GB of files, over 30,000 pictures, the problem is every time you go to see a folder with picture take for ever for the previews and many time to open a picture take 15 second, this is really slow.

We change window server 2003 for this NAS 104 but it too slow, I change the network switch for Gigabit switch and also change the router, I tought maybe is a network equipment but it not, also all the pc are connect it with ethernet cable not wireless.

Can you recommend me something to do to make the preview and open files faster.

Thanks!!

What client OS is the user running?

    Have you contacted support?

Do note that the 104 is a cost effective home device. If this is for business I would recommend using a business device such as the 314 or 516.

  • They have window 7 and window 8.

    I made a mistake is NAS 314.

      Hello ndpm,

Do you have iSCSI luns configured and Backup Job running on the NAS?

Also what ReadyNAS Apps are installed?

Please give more description like how slow and how do you access the NAS? Is it integrated to AD or just using local users?

      Regards,

No apps, no back up. We have just SMB enabled and all the computer are local users.

The problem is, let say you go to a folder with pictures on it, take 2 minutes for the thumbails to show or open sometimes a picture take 20 second.

I know window need to create cached but they have been using this for 3 month.

We have two 2 TB drive with Raid 1 on it and we have only 500 GB in use.

I have no iSCSI enable or any job.
