"Degraded" simply means that you no longer have RAID redundancy, not that your data is corrupted yet. That one drive is offline is likely indicating that drive has failed. But if another failure occurs before you restore redundancy by replacing the failed drive, your volume will be lost. If you don't already have one, your next step is to back up your data. The re-sync that occurs when you replace a drive puts a load on the others and can result in one of them failing, especially if they are at least as old as the one that already failed. And if that happens, you volume is dead. Something you should not do is cycle power or do a restart. If the NAS then sees the failed drive, which can happen when it re-initializes, it will start a re-sync, which will likely fail but puts a strain on your other drives and can end in an incomplete resync and dead volume.

Agreed. Your data is at risk.
If you don't have enough space to back up everything, then start with files that are irreplaceable (family photos, personal records, etc) while you are waiting for more storage to arrive.
