Nas &Ultra with OS6 Backup problem
Hi, I've successfully installed OS6 on my Pro & Ultra. Backing up to USB on the Pro & Ultra is a problem: 1. Is it possible to define either the rear left/right USB ports or the Front USB p...

The USB is defined as either Front, Top or Bottom.
My Pro has front, left and right
I can't define a USB backup since I updated to 6.4.0-T??
Is there a way to force it to use the left and right USB's
I am going to try and move it to the front and see if I can at least define some jobs to run.
The drive is addressable from where it is in the back, I can copy and move files to and from it using the browse options but will not work for backups
Hey guys. See this link: USB-backup-on-OS-6-2-4-Ultra6-fails. The ports are not mapped correctly for legacy Ultra (6 in my case).
Hope this provides some guidance.

For the Ultra 6 you could try 6.4.0 beta.

Is the Ultra 6 different from the Ultra2 and Pro2 for usb port mapping?

Yes. The 2-bay legacy x86 units have a USB3 port for instance whereas the other legacy x86 units have none.
In any case even if the port maps were the same as the Ultra 6 (they are not) they would have to be defined separately in the port mapping configuration.

Thanks mgdm.
I know legacy upgraders may be 'asking too much' (documentation on what is ''lost' would be useful if anybody had the time to spare).
1. OK - Ultra 6 has usb3, Ultra2/Pro2 have usb2 - but it is my understanding that if a usb2 device is plugged into a usb3 port it still works - at usb2 speed. I'm missing something here, methinks?
2. As OS6 for legacy is a hybrid of Netgear's OS6, would left/right/front port and backup button mapping be a mammoth task? I realize the 4.2.3-OS6 code is yours (mgdm's) but are there any enthusiasts who could do this for legacy products?
I have an Ultra2, Pro2 and 31400. It seems an awful pity not to be able to use these usb ports (the backup button I, personally, could forgo as OS6 schedules queue if all are manually started. Using them as shares does not help backing up if the usb device changes.
3. Would it be possible, as a workaround bit of coding, to permit a usb share designated as a backup share to ignore any change in device? Any not connected usb device could then, as in legacy, simply 'fail' on an attempt to backup.
Please understand I am coming from the 'loyalty' angle - I still use the Ultra2 and Pro2. Can Netgear give a little in return fpr our continued use of the legacy and newer products? I am not asking for Netgear to offer any tech support if users change from legacy to OS6 just recognition of the huge number of users that support them.
