New chassi, old drives, no volume
Hi!
I've just recieved a warranty replacement chassi for my RN204-system. (The old unit was dead and gone due to a failed power unit.)
Before I sent off the old unit I removed and marked the drives, and now they are back in the same places as in the old chassi.
I can log in to the unit with my old password. The notification settings are as they were. Logs are as "from the old unit" and seamlessly continued in the new cabinet. It all looks "the same" ...
... BUT ... there is no sign of my old volume and my previous shares ... :smileyfrustrated:
There is an error message on top of the Admin page: "Remove inactive volumes to use the disc. Disc #1,2,3,4." (Translated from Swedish. Perhaps not exactly what would be stated in English.)
As far as I can see the firmware is the same on the new unit as it was on the old one. (Logs say "Updated to 6.5.1" back in June and that is also what the Status page claims is the current version.)
Is there a way to tell the system to use the old volume "as is"?
Previously (on a ReadyNAS Pro 6) I've been able to replace a failed chassi with a new one and then continue.
So this behavior is something new to me.
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Jens
P.S.
This is a backup unit (rsync-backup of a ReadyNAS Pro 6) so nothing unique resides on the old volume. But it would save me a whole lot(!) of time if I could access the old volume instead of starting with a new one.
You can normally just migrate the drives. So something bad must have happened when the power supply failed - likely some writes queued up that never got written to the disks..
You could contact support again, they might be able to mount the drives for you. But if the raid array isn't quite in sync there could be some corruption of the files. I'd just bite the bullet and start the rsyncs going.

Thank you StephenB, you confirmed my suspicions.
New volume created, rsync started from scratch. All is well.
(Well ... all but my own patience ... :smileywink: )
Thanks again!
